Obsidian tools are the highest tiered tools in the game. They dig the fastest and have the highest durability (almost twice that of diamond tools). However they are also expensive to make.
To make it first place obsidian in an Enrichment Chamber to create Obsidian Dust. Then put the dust into a Platinum Compressor to create Obsidian Ingots. The Obsidian Ingots can then be used to craft Obsidian tools and armor.
