Radiation sickness is caused by being in the vicinity of radioactive material, suchentering a fallout zone from an atomic explosion. Either by a malfunctioning Nuclear Reactor or Nuclear Explosive.

However, Uranium Ore and Uranium Rods also emit radiation, even when in your inventory. You are safe from the radioactivity when they are placed in chests and Crates though.

To become immune to radiation sickness, one can wear a Hazmat Suit.

Cure

You can get rid of the harmful effects of radiation poisoning by drinking milk.
